The September 2020 compact SUV sales have proved that all the hype surrounding the Kia Sonet has not gone to waste.
In its first outing, the car has gone on to shift 9266 units from showrooms, immediately rising to the top of its class. Closely following the Sonet is the Vitara Brezza from Maruti in second place that sold 9153 units during the month.
Hyundai Venue came third with 8469 units driven home by customers, while the Nexon saw 6007 units get sold during the same period.
Indian automaker Mahindra sold 3700 units of its compact SUV, the XUV300, during September, while Ford EcoSport, which kickstarted the segment, was not far off with 3558 unit sales.
It was the sole Tata in the list that saw the highest year-over-year growth in sales, recording a 111 percent improvement. The XUV300 too witnessed a good hike in sales numbers to the tune of 48 percent.
Two cars in the list lost out in term of sales and they are the Honda WR-V and Maruti’s Vitara Brezza. Honda could only sell 1124 units of the WR-V, a 16 percent degrowth, while the product from Maruti witnessed a 12 percent drop in its sales figure.
Overall, partly due to the newcomer, the September 2020 compact SUV sales was better than that of last year. Take the Sonet out and still the numbers are better than that of the year before, indicating how dreadful the economic slowdown was for auto firms in 2019.
