Compact SUV sales in May 2021, suffered as with every other car segment, proving definitively that even the most preferred choice of vehicles cannot escape the singular nature of the current scenario.
While Maruti’s Vitara Brezza and the Hyundai Venue kept trading blows at the top, this time around, it is the Kia Sonet that has risen to the top by registering sales of 6627 units in May.
The Tata Nexon took the second spot with 6439 unit sales, pushing the Venue, that saw 4840 takers, to third place.
Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza clearly suffered this past month, for the compact SUV could only record sales of 2648 units. It would not be long before it gets back to leading the segment.
Next in line in the May 2021 compact SUV sales chart are the Renault Kiger (1326 units) and Nissan Magnite (1200 units). Both carmakers have been dealing with production issues and should soon increase output to deliver the vehicles on time to awaiting customers.
Mahindra’s Thar was the only other vehicle to break the 4-digit figure with 1911 unit sales, while other compact SUVs such as the Ford EcoSport (503 units), Toyota Urban Cruiser (373 units), Mahindra XUV300 (251 units) and Honda WR-V (192 units) did not do well.
Sadly, none of the vehicles in the list posted month-on-month (MoM) sales growth. Overall, cars in the segment recorded sales of 26,310 units, which is a worrying 54 percent MoM drop.
