Hyundai Venue once led the compact SUV sales in January 2021, beating the very popular Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza once again.

In all, 11,779 units of the car were sold by its maker in the first month of the year, while Maruti managed to find 10,623 takers for the Brezza.

After slipping to fourth place last time around, the Kia Sonet bounced back to third place by recording 8859 unit sales.

This meant the Nexon occupied fourth position, not that Tata would mind though, for the compact SUV managed to find over 8225 takers, record numbers for the model.

Similarly, the safest car of the bunch, the Mahindra XUV300, is also going from strength to strength. The Indian firm sold 4612 units of the SUV, which might not seem much, but given the intense competition in the segment, even small amounts of growth matter.

Another Mahindra, admittedly a niche segment player, the Thar, comes next, with 3152 unit sales to its name, which is an all-time high for the car.

Nissan seems to have struck gold with the Magnite and yes, 3031 units is not high, but look at it this way, the carmaker only sold 4021 units overall in January 2021 and that says a lot.

Similarly, Toyota has profited very much owing to its badge engineering exercise. In the January 2021 compact SUV sales list, the Urban cruiser came eighth, with 3005 unit sales.

In the last 2 places were the Ford EcoSport (2266 units) and the Honda WR-V (1211 units). While the American car witnessed year-over-year (YoY) degrowth, the Japanese car’s growth figure skyrocketed.

All the cars, but 1, registered growth as compact SUV sales keep booming in India. Total sales stood at 56,763 units, which is a 106 percent YoY growth.

Add the Urban Cruiser’s sales figure and it would be the Vitara Brezza that leads this segment
