The Maruti Ciaz enters and makes a big entry at the 8th position, while the top selling Swift takes a beating. Hyundai is doing great with the Elite i20 along with two more of its offerings in the top 10 list.
The month of October is that time of the year when every manufacturer is waiting to make the most out of the auspicious period with buying sentiments at an all time high. With new launches, product refreshes and lots of discounts and freebies on offer; here is a list of the best selling cars of October 2014 as well as a few that missed the mark by just.
Hatchbacks – It may sound repetitive but the Maruti Alto remained the undisputed bestseller across all segments clocking in 21,443 units in October. The dip in sales however was taken by the Swift during the festive period with 11,965 units sold and was primarily due to the launch of the facelift model that came out on 28th October. The Swift was replaced by another Maruti, the Wagon R for the third position that did clocked a consistent 14,310 units in the previous month.
Apart from the top 4 sellers coming from Maruti’s stable, Hyundai too did exceedingly well with the new Elite i20 coming in on the 5th position with an appreciable 8896 units sold. The Hyundai Grand i10 followed up on 6th with 8400 units, while the entry-level Eon did a decent 6986 units. The month was also positive for the Volkswagen Polo with 2985 units, Toyota Etios Liva + Cross with 2409 units and the Fiat Punto Evo with 1238 units sold, compared to the previous month’s sales report.
Sedans – Starting with the compact sedans, the Maruti DZire remained undeterred and was second highest selling car on the list with 17,950 units sold. The Hyundai Xcent did well with 4629 units, while the Tata Zest clocked a good number selling 3524 units, beating the Honda Amaze that clocked 3482 units. In the C-segment sedan space, new entrant Maruti Ciaz outsold the Honda City by clocking in 6345 units, compared to the City’s 5120 units in the same period. The Verna is facing the heat fiercely in the segment with just 2248 units sold, while the Vento and Rapid don’t come even close with just 1533 and 1047 units sold respectively. The biggest losers however were the Renault Scala with just 142 units, while the Nissan Sunny clocked 364 units. The Fiesta disappointed as well with just 476 units.
Utility Vehicles – The utility segment posted robust sales with the Mahindra Bolero leading the pack having sold 9090 units in October. The Maruti Omni maintained numbers selling 6144 units, while the mighty Toyota Innova seems indifferent to the competition clocking in 5147 units. The shocker was the Mobilio with just 2985 units sold, while the Ertiga did a healthy 5025 units in the last month. In the SUV lineup, the Duster and EcoSport remained consistent clocking 3417 and 4528 units respectively, while the new Scorpio saw sales dip to 5049 units, a dip of 16 percent over September sales.
