The year 2014 saw a number of new products launches as well as a fair amount of products upgrades. Every month’s sales charts are interesting for us to go through and we bring to you a complete analysis of car sales for November 2014.
In the compact hatchback segment, nothing can beat the Maruti Alto in numbers. The Alto sold 24,201 units leaving rivals like the Hyundai Eon far behind at 6626 units. The Maruti siblings, Celerio and Wagon R managed to sell 4926 and 13,545 numbers respectively. Moving a segment up, the Maruti Swift remains the king of premium hatchbacks fetching 17,900 units followed by the Hyundai Elite i20 at 10,552 units. The Hyundai Grand i10 managed to find 8396 homes while the Fiat Punto Evo sold just 616 units.
Moving to three boxes, again Maruti comes at the top with the Swift DZire topping the compact sedan segment with 14,009 sales. The Hyundai Xcent sold 3899 units closely followed by the Tata Zest at 3835 units. The Honda Amaze managed 3310 sales in the month. A segment above, the Honda City remains the undisputed leader of the C-segment with 7251 sales while the Hyundai Verna was far behind at 1588 units, the Ciaz sold 5232 units last month. The Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento sold in 958 and 894 units respectively. The Tata Indigo and Manza sold a respectable 2075 units combined but most numbers are for Indigo and the Manza sells in double digit numbers every month.
In MUVs, the Maruti Ertiga found 5003 homes with the Toyota Innova marching ahead at 5371 units. The Honda Mobilio sold 3588 units. The new Mahindra Scorpio is the king of SUVs with 4205 sales (XUV500 managed 2047 units) while the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano brought in 3842, 2673 and 719 sales respectively. Clearly established brands are maintaining their lead and continue to sell in good numbers.
In the D-segment, the Toyota Corolla led with 1026 units sold while the Elantra, Jetta, Cruze and Fluence managed 207, 106, 70 and 7 units respectively. The Octavia only sold 99 units and it’s the first time in recent months has the car gone under the century mark in monthly sales. In the SUV segment, the Fortuner maintains its lead with 1518 units while the Santa Fe, CR-V and Endeavour managed 63, 62 and 26 units respectively. The Koleos continued to perform poorly with just 3 units sold last month.
