India’s performance motorcycle segment is seeing a downfall in sales for quite some time now.
The Indian two-wheeler market is currently going about on a roller coaster ride. While the scooter and commuter bikes segment show a stable sales figure, bike sales in the 200-500cc category are gradually declining. No matter what, the Royal Enfield Classic 350 continues to rule the segment despite registering a decrease in sales in February 2019. Consequently, the RE Classic 350 stands in the first position with 37,862 units being sold in comparison to 46,321 sales in January 2019. This translates to an 18 percent drop in MoM sales figure.
While TVS and Bajaj did not reveal individual sales figures for the Apache RTR 200 and Pulsar 200 NS. We can very well assume both these motorcycles to be one of the most selling motorcycles in the segment. As a result, TVS stands in the second position with a combined sales of 35,358 units while the Pulsar 180 and 200 NS added up to sell 14,758 units in February 2019. Moreover, both these motorcycles recorded an MoM growth of about 11 percent and 40 percent, respectively.
Royal Enfield has three more models in the top 10 most selling 200-500cc bikes of February 2019 list. The RE Bullet 350 Twinspark stands in the fourth position with 12,576 units sold. However, this is a 6 percent MoM drop in sales figures. The other two models here include the RE Thunderbird 350 and Bullet Electra Twinspark. These motorcycles managed to sell 4298 and 1848 units respectively. Interestingly, while Royal Enfield motorcycles dominate the segment sales, all the models suffered a drop in sales volume.
Other contenders present in the list include two motorcycles from Bajaj. The Bajaj Pulsar 220 continues to manage a spot in this list with 5720 units sold. Moreover, the Avenger 220 sold 1596 units thus gaining the tenth spot in the most selling 200-500cc bikes of February 2019 list. On the other hand, the KTM Duke 200 finally saw a growth in sales figures with 2053 units being sold at a 5 percent increase over last month. Hero MotoCorp also finds its name in the list with the Xtreme 200 R securing the eighth position here. The motorcycle sold 1851 units at a 37 percent MoM drop in sales.
