The top 6 list of upcoming EVs in India include cars from multiple brands
EVs are getting quite popular these days and we thought we should come up with a list of some soon to be launched electric vehicles in the country. So here are some upcoming EVs that are lined up for India:
1. MG Comet EV
The Chinese carmaker has trademarked this name recently and we believe the Wuling Air EV will be renamed to Comet EV by MG Motor India. It will have a very compact size with 4 seater capacity and a 2-door layout. It is expected to be the most affordable EV in India with a price tag of under Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will come with a 50 kW motor that can give a range of up to 300 km on single charge.
2. Citroen eC3:
After the French carmaker introduced their entry-level hatchback in India, they are preparing to launch their first electric car in the country. It will be based on the same ICE counterpart and have the same styling apart from a few bits. It will come with a 29.2 kWh battery pack. The electric motor produces an output of 56 BHP and 143 Nm of torque. It will return a claimed range of 320 km on a single charge. Likely to be priced around Rs. 13 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will compete with the Tata Tiago EV.
3. Tata Punch EV:
Tata Motors is currently the leader of passenger EV space having some strong sales with their existing EV lineup including Nexon, Tigor and Tiago. They’re not done yet! The Indian carmaker has decided to introduce more electric vehicles soon. One of them will be the Tata Punch EV. The popular micro SUV will be positioned under the Nexon EV to cater a wider audience who want to adapt to the EV ecosystem. It will be sharing the electric powertrain with the Tiago EV. Expected price is up to Rs. 15 lakhs (ex-showroom).
4. Tata Altroz EV:
The electric version of the Tata Altroz was showcased 3 years back at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, the car has not made it to the showrooms yet. Now that the carmaker is pushing their EV range with a huge focus, we can expect it to launch sometime this year. It will have a range of up to 300 km on a single charge. There is currently no electric premium hatchback on sale in the Indian market. Tata Motors will have a first movers’ advantage with the Altroz EV if launched on time. Expected to come with a price tag of up to Rs. 17 lakhs (ex-showroom).
5. BYD Seal:
Showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, the BYD Seal will be the next product from the Chinese carmaker. Their all-electric portfolio in India witnessed the launch of BYD e6 MPV and recently the Atto 3 electric crossover. Now they are all set to introduce the new body style of a sedan with an electric powertrain. It will come in multiple RWD and AWD variants and different battery packs. To have a claimed range of up to 700 km on a single charge. It does 0-100 km/hr in 3.8 seconds. Likely to be priced around Rs. 40 lakhs (ex-showroom). Launch expected later this year.
6. Volvo C40 Recharge:
The Swedish brand’s C40 is a coupe version of the XC40. The C40 Recharge will come with an SUV coupe design. It looks very similar to the XC40 Recharge front profile but when you look at the rear design, it has a sloping roofline which looks more sporty. It will come with multiple electric powertrain options. It has a claimed range of up to 482 km on single charge. Comes with a 238 HP motor. Likely to be priced around Rs. 65 lakhs (ex-showroom).
