The top 25 selling cars list in February 2018 sees the Maruti Ciaz and Celerio outsell its competition.
While January 2018 ended on quite a positive note for the Indian passenger car market, February 2018 saw a slight dip in the numbers. Apart from a few cars from the top 25 selling list, rest all contenders have posted a marginal negative growth in terms of volumes. While the table above is self-explanatory, let us take you through the other cars that couldn’t make it to the list above.
Skoda continues to remain the underdog in the Indian passenger car market. The Rapid, Kodiaq and Octavia sold 730, 223 and 201 numbers in February respectively while the Superb managed to sell just 163 numbers. Next up is FCA with total sales 1975 units of which 1941 units are being contributed by the Jeep Compass. The Punto and Linea sell a meager 31 and 3 units respectively. German carmaker Volkswagen’s total sales fell from 3418 units in January to 3217 units in February. While the Polo, Vento and Ameo sold 1470, 505 and 1100 numbers respectively, the Rs. 30 lakh plus Tiguan sold 110 units and the Passat managed to find 32 homes.
Datsun’s redi-GO, GO and GO+ contribute 2786, 426 and 535 units to Nissan’s overall sales of 4737 units. The company’s own Micra, Sunny and Terrano sold 545, 306 and 139 units respectively in February 2018. French carmaker Renault registered total sales of 7305 units with Kwid contributing more than 80 percent to the total sales. Lodgy and Duster sold 135 and 763 units respectively while the Captur clocked sales of 333 units in February.
American auto major Ford sold 1072, 1709 and 814 units of the Figo, Aspire and Endeavour respectively. Honda City manages to outsell the WR-V by a slight margin. The WR-V, Brio, Jazz and Amaze saw sales of 3364, 375, 2257 and 933 units while the BR-V found 822 homes in February 2018. Toyota’s Innova continues to rake in the volumes for the Japanese automaker while the Etios, Liva, Corolla Altis and Fortuner saw sales of 2060, 1301, 384 and 1961 units respectively in February.
Homegrown automaker Tata sold 52 units of the Nano, 366 units of the Bolt, 1580 units of the Zest and 2846 units of the Tiago. Utility vehicles Hexa and Safari sold 895 and 320 units respectively. Mahindra’s decade-old vehicles Bolero and Scorpio are still raking in the volumes for the carmaker. Meanwhile, the KUV100 NXT sold 2485 units, TUV300 sold 2488 units and the XUV500 sold 1901 units. With a market share of close to 16 percent, Hyundai stands second in the Indian passenger car market when it comes to volumes. Its mid-size sedan, the Verna outsells the Honda City while Maruti’s Ciaz takes the cake in the mid-size sedan segment in India. Talking about Ciaz, the facelifted version of the car will be launched in India with the new 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines which will replace the existing 1.3-litre diesel and 1.4-litre petrol engine.
