We take a look at the top 15 selling bikes in the month of June 2015. The leader is the Honda Activa which is surprising indeed.
When we complied the list of top selling bikes for the last month, what caught our attention was that Hero has a staggering 49% market share in the top 15 sellers with five models featuring in the list. Talk about dominance. However, it is the Honda Activa which leads the sales charts and beats the Hero Splendor by a paltry 1805 units. Increasing traffic in cities is shifting customers to a more stress-free way of commuting which the gearless scooters provide. The next three positions are occupied by the Splendor, Passion and the HF Deluxe which share many parts and mainly differ in the looks department.
Breaking the flow of Hero bikes on the list, the Honda CB Shine comes in at the fifth position owing to its reliable, fuel efficient yet powerful 125cc engine. Following the Shine is the Hero Glamour which manages to grab customers due to its styling elements, the 125cc engine and of course the Hero badge. Bajaj CT 100 comes in at the seventh position and sells decently in the commuter segment largely dominated by Hero. India’s most popular sportsbike, the Bajaj Pulsar stands at the eighth position due to the sheer number of variants on offer and the popularity of most of them.
In at the ninth position is another scooter but this time from TVS. The Jupiter manages to garner decent sales numbers yet is far away from the segment leader. Hero Maestro which is almost the same as the same as the Honda Activa occupies the tenth position on the chart. The Honda Dream commuter series comes in at the eleventh position much behind the Hero bikes and the Bajaj CT 100. The Bajaj Platina manages to grab the twelfth position in the list with an average figure of 25,266 units. The next two positions are taken by TVS products.
The TVS Apache RTR which comes with two engine options and is the closest competitor of the Pulsar range from Bajaj grabs the thirteenth spot whereas the TVS Star City which competes in the commuter segment comes in at fourteenth. The list begins with a Honda and ends with one too. The Honda CB Unicorn 160 which was introduced not too long ago is selling well in the market and is an excellent product. What is surprising is that there is no Yamaha product on the list even though they have some good products in the portfolio. Vespa is another brand which doesn’t feature on the list but then it is focused towards a niche market.
