May 2015 sales figures of the top 10 selling UVs in India

Utility vehicles consist of a huge market share in India and they are widely preferred for their practicality. The Mahindra Bolero is a very old vehicle and despite this, it continues to rule the UV market in India with sales of more than 7000 units a month consistently. The Bolero sells mostly in rural markets and Mahindra is gearing up to launch its replacement in the near future. The Maruti Ertiga comes in at second position with sales of 5430 units. The Ertiga is a very good choice for those who require a 7-seater but are on a budget. The Toyota Innova follows the Ertiga closely and it has been selling in good numbers since a decade even though it is very expensive now.

Mahindra launched the new Scorpio in 2014 and it has been performing very well, having sales of 4249 units. The Ford EcoSport, which was an instant hit right from launch, sold in 3780 numbers last month. The EcoSport will soon face very tough competition from the Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross. The Mahindra XUV500 found 3200 homes last month and it is not at all surprising considering the fact that it comes across as a good package. The new kid on the block, the Renault Lodgy managed sales of 1947 units which is again pretty decent.

The Toyota Fortuner is again a hot-seller and it sold 1528 units in May 2015. The Renault Duster was the vehicle that introduced India to the compact SUV segment and while it was consistently selling in 4000-odd units a month last year, this time the Duster’s sales have fallen to 1429 units. The Mahindra Thar which is a lifestyle vehicle and caters to a limited segment sold in 1119 units which is very good for a vehicle of this type.
