Top 10 Selling Cars In March 2016, Six Are Marutis

2015 Renault Kwid Prices

Maruti continues its massive dominance in the Indian market even though sales of its popular hatchbacks, the Swift and Baleno have fallen due to the arrival of the Vitara Brezza.

Maruti occupies 6 spots in the list of top 10 selling cars!

Sales for the month of March 2016 have shown an overall positive trend. Maruti continues to occupy the top 4 positions in the hierarchy with sales of the Alto, Swift DZire and Wagon R showing minor growth while sales of the Swift have seen a slight fall. The Renault Kwid is doing pretty good and is steadily marching up the sales charts.

While the Hyundai Grand i10 continues to retain its position at 6th place with a growth of 7% over the previous month, the Elite i20 has fallen quite a bit with sales having a dip of 15%. However, its arch rival, the Maruti Baleno also sees a minor dip in sales and the i20 continues to be ahead of the Japanese rival.

The Maruti Celerio has seen an incredible rise in numbers with sales increasing by more than 3500 units which is fantastic. It remains to be seen whether majority of the sales are coming from petrol/CNG or diesel variants. The Honda City seems to have got a push in sales, thus overtaking the Maruti Ciaz and becoming the leader of the C-segment again.

This month we have noticed a positive growth in sales across most segments but one thing that we analysed is the fact that the premium hatchback segment seems to have taken some beating, case in point being the sales of the Swift, Baleno and Elite i20. There could be various reasons to this, such as people who are moving to other segments like compact sedans and SUVs. Also, this list has only cars and not UVs and hence vehicles like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Vitara Brezza aren’t included.
