May 2015 seems to be a good month for four-wheeler companies, thanks to a slight hike in sales. Maruti continues to dominate the list as usual.
At the beginning of every month, we at MotorBeam always look forward to the sales numbers of cars sold in the previous month. While we always expect Maruti to top the list, what gets exciting is the fact how each cars’ numbers go up and down each month. This month too, the Alto continues to be the highest selling car in India at 22,595 units which is a marginal hike over the previous month’s sales. In April, the Swift overtook the DZire in sales but this time the latter has regained its position back with 19,663 units while the Swift sold in 17,195 numbers.
Following the Swift, is its younger and efficient sibling, the Wagon R which sold 12,467 units in May as compared to 13,872 units in April. In April, the Hyundai Elite i20 was at the fifth position while the Grand i10 was at sixth position and this month these Korean siblings have interchanged their slots. The Grand i10 sold 10,112 units while the Elite i20 managed 8469 units. The Honda City continues to remain at seventh position this month as well, registering sales of 7562 units. The Maruti Celerio has now moved up from ninth to eighth position with sales of 6653 units.
The Hyundai Eon has moved down from eighth to ninth position registering sales of 6449 units. The Xcent compact sedan continues to remain at the tenth position with sales at 4871 units as compared to 4666 units in April 2015. The Indian auto market has seen a huge change over the past few years. It is not at all surprising to see Maruti topping the list every month, but what gets us interested is how vehicles across various segments are fighting it out with their rivals to move up the sales chart. With the launch of the Celerio diesel today, we are already looking forward to check out the sales numbers in the upcoming months.
