1) Toyota Corolla
The Toyota Corolla is the highest selling D-segment car in India and it is also the top most selling car in the world! Toyota sure knows how to carve out winners and the Corolla is living proof. The Corolla, which has been a high selling vehicle since quite a lot of years, got sales of 6.41 lakh units in the first half of 2016.
2) Volkswagen Golf
Another automaker that has been selling a lot of cars is Volkswagen. The Golf is their flagship hatchback which has earned a huge fan base for itself over the past few decades. The Golf, in its current avatar, is the second highest selling car in the world with sales of 5 lakh units in the first half of this year.
3) Ford F-Series
Pick-up trucks aren’t popular at all in the Indian market but the story is completely different overseas. In markets where such type of vehicles get good demand, American automaker Ford has bagged 4.78 lakh sales of the F-Series truck in the initial half of 2016.
4) Ford Focus
The Focus is another car from the stable of Ford that has grown very popular in global markets. It isn’t available on sale in India, but the places where it is, it has found 3.67 lakh homes from January to June this year.
5) Hyundai Elantra
The Hyundai Elantra is another popular D-segment sedan which is currently in its 6th generation in the global markets. The same model will be launched in India in the coming weeks too. Globally, Hyundai sold 3.63 lakh units of the sedan in the first half of 2016.
6) Volkswagen Polo
The Volkswagen Polo may not be a hot-selling hatchback in India but if we consider overseas markets, the German automaker sold 3.58 lakh units of the premium hatch in the initial 6 months of this year.
7) Toyota RAV4
Toyota vehicles definitely have a huge clientele in a lot of countries which proves why the RAV4 compact SUV got sales of 3.46 lakh units in the first half of 2016.
8) Toyota Camry
Another Toyota appears in this list and it is the Camry which is a favourite sedan in a lot of countries. The Camry has come a long way in the past few decades and yet it remains a popular car. Toyota sold 3.39 lakh units of the Camry in the first half of the year.
9) Honda CR-V
The Honda CR-V is a low seller in India due to its pricing and the fact that it only comes with a petrol engine. However, the Japanese automaker has sold 3.33 lakh units of the SUV in other countries in the first six months of 2016.
10) Chevrolet Silverado
The Silverado is one large pick-up truck which is also managing large number of sales. Chevrolet found 3.07 lakh homes for the truck in the first half of 2016.
