Maruti Suzuki continues to retain the top spot in the Indian auto market with the Alto being the country’s best seller, followed by Hyundai with its three dominating models.
After two sluggish financial years, the Indian auto industry finally saw some respite in the 2014-15 fiscal as the market restabilized and sales started witnessing a positive growth. The biggest recipient for this growth was Maruti Suzuki that continued its sales momentum with five of its products coming in on the top that was followed by the offerings from Hyundai and Honda. Here are the top 10 best-selling cars for the 2014-15 financial year.
Observations –
1) Maruti Suzuki remains undeterred from its pole position retaining the top four spots on the list for the 2014-15 financial year. The company’s best-selling product remains the Alto and sold over 2.64 lakh units in the previous financial year, witnessing a growth of 2.4 percent. The Swift came in second with 2.01 lakh units sold, growing by 1.4 percent compared to the 2013-14 financial year.
2) The DZire came in third on the top 10 list with 1.92 lakh units in the 2014-15 fiscal with sales growing by 2.3 percent as compared to a year ago. The last Maruti on the list was the Wagon R at the fourth spot and retailed 1.61 lakhs units during the last fiscal year and witnessed a healthy jump of 3.12 percent over the 2013-14 fiscal.
3) Hyundai India has been going great guns with each of its offerings doing well in the market. The company bagged the fifth spot with the Grand i10 that sold 99,088 units during the last financial year, moving from seventh position in the 2013-14 fiscal. The company also bagged the sixth spot with the Eon hatchback that retailed 78,334 units while its highly acclaimed offering the Elite i20 came in at the seventh position in the first year of sales with 77,747 units sold.
4) Honda India opened to the list with the City C-segment sedan at the eighth spot with 77,343 units sold, which was followed by the Maruti Celerio at the ninth spot having retailed 68,143 units in the last financial year. Lastly, Honda’s Amaze filled in the tenth spot with 66,703 units sold in the previous fiscal.
5) The automotive industry finally saw a 4.99 percent growth in sales in the 2014-15 fiscal after failing to attract growth in the previous two financial years. Total car sales for the year stood at 18,76,017 units as compared to the 17,86,826 units sold in the 2013-14 financial year.
