Top 10 Selling Bikes In December 2015, Splendor Beats Activa

Honda Activa 125 Long Term Report

December 2015 sales figures are out and we take a look at the top 10 selling bikes of the month. For most manufacturers, the month didn’t work out too well.

Most products witnessed a drop in sales due to year end

The last month of every calendar year doesn’t work too well for majority of automakers. Since the value of the vehicle reduces as soon as the year changes, customers tend to avoid buying during the last month of the year. Instead, they wait for the year to change and then pick up vehicles from older stock at good discounts. The net result of this is a drop in sales during December as compared to November and the same has happened this year too.

Out of the top 10 selling bikes, eight have registered a drop in sales with four having double digit drops. The top seller of this month is the Hero Splendor which beat the Honda Activa by around 10,000 units even after facing a drop in sales by 20%. Sales of the Honda Activa also dipped by around 5% which kept it at second place. At a distant third place is the Hero HF Deluxe which saw a minute drop in sales maintaining its position steadily in the market.

One of the oldest 2-wheelers on sale in India, the TVS XL Super sold an impressive 56,000 units which puts it on fourth position, beating most of the current generation offerings. The Hero Passion follows in closely, falling behind by just 700 odd units. The biggest increase in sales was registered by Hero Maestro which saw a rise of 46%. This is primarily due to the launch of the Maestro Edge across India and also due to the growing popularity of scooters.

The Honda CB Shine comes in at the sixth spot with a sales drop of 17% which is surprising considering Honda added new stickers to the bike a few months ago to boost its sales. The Hero Glamour managed to witness an increase and is selling well considering it’s an old model. The TVS Jupiter saw a slight dip in sales and this can be due to the launch of the Hero Maestro Edge. Coming in last is the Bajaj CT 100 which continues to soldier on without much updates.
