The top 10 selling 2-wheelers in May 2017 sees the Honda Dio making an entry for the first time in 6 years.
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India and Hero MotoCorp continue to dominate the top 10 selling 2-wheelers chart for the month of May 2017 with only Honda and Hero products in the top 5.
Though the Activa’s month-on-month volumes fell by 10 percent, it still leads the chart selling 2,82,478 units in May 2017. Following the Honda Activa is Hero’s Splendor that managed to sell 2,35,832 units in May 2017 vs. 2,26,681 units in April 2017, thereby registering a growth of 4 percent.
The Hero HF Deluxe held on to the third position selling 1,40,769 units in May while the fourth spot was bagged by Hero’s Passion. The Passion outsold the CB Shine by selling 89,399 units versus the CB Shine’s sales of 86,600 units in May 2017. The TVS XL Super jumped two spots up by selling 70,253 units in May and now sits at the sixth position.
The Hero Glamour and TVS Jupiter slipped one spot selling 67,515 units and 57,068 units respectively and have positioned themselves at the seventh and eighth spot respectively. The Bajaj Pulsar managed to hold on to ninth position by selling a total of 50,009 units in May 2017.
Talking of Bajaj, the CT 100 is missing in the top 10 sales of May 2017. The Honda Dio surprisingly makes an entry into the top 10 sales list for the first time in 6 years. Appealing more to the young population, Honda sold 41,303 Dios in May 2017.
Increasing traffic, more and more woman getting into the workforce, better infrastructure even in rural places has led to scooterisation in India, which makes scooters like the Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter more appealing to the masses.
