The TVS Akula 310 won the best concept award at the 2016 Auto Expo and will go into production by the end of 2016. Most bikes showcased will be available for sale later this year.
Like every other edition, the 2016 Auto Expo saw a number of manufacturers showcasing their best bikes and scooters with launch plans of many of them being announced. So we are here with the list of the top 10 bikes from the 2016 Auto Expo and yes, the list is in order.
10) Mahindra Mojo Adventure Tourer
Mahindra showcased the Mojo with two new body styles that include a scrambler and an adventure tourer at the 2016 Auto Expo of which the later has managed to reach the 10th place in our list. The bike looked nothing like the original Mojo with the new windshield, tall stance, vertically placed projector headlamps and spoke wheels with knobby tyres. No mechanical changes are found and the production plan will be prepared looking at the response it got.
9) Hero XF3R
The Hero XF3R was designed in America along with the HX250 with inputs from Erik Buell Racing. The street-fighter is powered by a 300cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine while the output figures are not disclosed yet. It has telescopic front forks and a single sided swingarm with monoshock at the rear with discs on both the wheels. It is not expected to go under production before 2017.
8) TVS X21
TVS Motor showcased the X21 concept to display its rich racing heritage. The X21 is a track oriented bike that is powered by a 212.4cc, single-cylinder, four-valve, fuel-injected engine with dual oil-cooler, dual free flowing air filter and exhaust canisters that contribute to better combustion, air and oil flow. This motor is derived from the Apache RTR 200. It is built on a lightweight frame made of aluminium and carbon-fibre. 0-100 km/hr comes up in 8.7 seconds while the top speed is 148 km/hr.
7) Honda Navi
Honda created a buzz with the Navi that was launched at the 2016 Auto Expo, priced at Rs. 39,500/- while it will be offered in three variants that includes Street, Off-road and Adventure. The Navi is a scooter-cum-motorcycle crossover which the Indian market has never seen before and it is powered by a 110cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 7.8 BHP and 8.96 Nm of torque. Deliveries of the Honda Navi will commence in April.
6) UM Renegade
UM Motorcycles like Jeep had plans for its Indian debut since a long time and it is finally here with the Renegade series that is now available priced between Rs. 1.49 – 1.69 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). It is powered by a 279cc, single-cylinder engine that produces 24.66 BHP and 21.8 Nm of torque while mated on a 6-speed gearbox. The range consists of three different bikes that include the Sport, Classic and Commando.
5) Benelli TRK 502
The Benelli TRK 502 was unveiled at EICMA last year and will be available in the Indian market by mid-2016. The adventure-tourer is powered by a new 500cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that produces 47 BHP at 8500 RPM and 45 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM. It features 47 mm telescopic front forks and a rear monoshock suspension.
4) Aprilia SR 150
The Aprilia SR 150 was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and is expected to be launched by August. The premium-scooter is powered by a 150cc, single-cylinder engine with enough power output. It looks sporty with the 14-inch wheels, front and rear disc brakes and wide tyres.
3) BMW G310R
BMW Motorrad entered into a partnership with TVS Motor few years ago and the G310R is the first product developed jointly and it will be produced in India. It was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, however no news about the launch is out yet. The BMW G310R is powered by a 313cc, single-cylinder, backward tilted engine that produces 34 BHP and 28 Nm of torque while mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
2) Triumph Bonneville Street Twin & Thruxton R
Triumph showcased the Thruxton R at the 2016 Auto Expo where it also launched the Street Twin, priced at Rs. 6.9 lakhs. The Thruxton R is powered by a 1200cc, parallel-twin engine that also powers the T120, this motor produces 122 Nm of torque at 4950 RPM on the performance spec variant while the Street Twin is powered by a smaller 900cc, parallel-twin motor that produces 80 Nm of torque at 3200 RPM.
1) TVS Akula 310
The number 1 bike on our list, the TVS Akula 310 is also awarded as the best concept at the 2016 Auto Expo. The concept is developed on a carbon-fibre body for added performance and it is powered by the 313cc engine that also powers the BMW G310R but it is expected to be tuned to produce more power. When launched it will stand strong against the very popular KTM RC 390 with a competitive price.
