Tigor EV poor performance response given by Tata, says that EV meets all requirements of the EESL tender.
Tata has released a statement which contains the automaker’s response to the complaints on poor performance of Tigor EVs supplied to EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Limited). Just a few days back, there were reports on the internet that the government officials are unhappy with the Tata Tigor EV due to sub-par performance and inadequate range. Now the homegrown automaker has given a response saying that ‘based on our interaction with the customers and EESL, we have not heard range as a major concern’.
Tata claims that the Tigor EVs supplied to EESL are in line with the specifications provided in the tender and an overnight charge will provide a range of 130 kms. According to the ARAI standard test, the EV should be having a driving range of 142 kms on a full charge. Tata is in agreement that the vehicle’s driving range could have been improved with a larger capacity battery pack but that would have pushed the cost of the vehicle to inaccessible limits. The biggest barrier for adoption of EVs is the price and the battery cost of the vehicle is a key variable determining the prices, says Tata.
The statement from the carmaker also mentions that the claimed range is more than adequate to meet the requirements of daily city use. Research conducted by the company shows that the average per day running of a personal vehicle in the city is around 50-60 kms. The company is committed to introducing more EVs with higher driving range and performance in the future. Nonetheless, the cost of those EVs will be significantly higher due to the superior battery capacity.
