Skoda unveiled the all new Superb at an event in Prague. The car has got some major changes in its third generation and is India bound.
Skoda unveiled the all new Superb today in a big event at Prague. This is the third generation of Skoda’s flagship sedan and has been improved over the previous model in almost every aspect. It is a combination of space, safety, environmental friendliness, comfort, performance and stands true to Skoda’s tagline “Simply Clever”. Skoda has sold over 7,00,000 units of the first and second generation Superb and aims to beat their sales record with the third generation model.
The Superb is inspired by the Skoda VisionC which was displayed at various auto shows across the globe. The wheelbase of the car has grown by 80 mm while the front overhang has been shortened by 61 mm. The new architecture helps the vehicle look more aggressive and dynamic. The distinctive grille, new headlights and the power bulge on the bonnet add to the aggressiveness. Narrow pillars, waistline and gently sloping roof give it the look of a luxury coupe. The tail lights are all LED units and feature a C-shaped light bar that links to CZech crystals. The quality of materials used has improved even further and the whole car looks more luxurious now.
Compared to previous generation, the 2016 Skoda Superb offers more interior space. Drivers and passengers get more headroom and the passenger also gets more legroom. The width of the rear seat has increased by 69 mm which will make it suitable for three people. The car comes with all the gizmos one can think of. Dynamic Chassis Control, automatic climate control AC, panoramic sunroof, rain and light sensors, electrically operated tailgate are just a few of the features. The Superb comes with an advanced Colombus system that has an option of LTE connectivity and SmartLink interface including MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system comes with 12 speakers which combined gives 610-watts of power that can turn the Superb into a concert hall on wheels.
The new engines of the Skoda Superb are more fuel efficient and consume up to 30% lesser fuel and emit lesser CO2. Five petrol engines and three diesel engines which confirm to EU6 will be available as choices. Petrol engines power ranges from 125 BHP to 280 BHP whereas the diesel engines power ranges from 120 BHP to 190 BHP. Most of the variants get a modern dual-clutch DSG gearbox. We expect the new Superb to be launched in India only next year, coming via the CKD route. The Superb would most likely come with 2.0-litre TDI and a 1.8-litre TSI powerplants. Both these engines currently power the current gen model and the Octavia in the sub-continent. We expect the prices to start at around Rs. 25 lakhs, with main rivals being the upcoming Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata and Toyota Camry.
