Tesla Opened Up Positions For Jobs Which Signals Potential Launching Of Model 3 & Model Y
Tesla recently opened up positions for Sales Manager, Customer Support, Sales Advisory, etc. This signals the intention of the American Manufacturer to operate in India. We have already seen Tesla models on the streets thanks to rich people’s importation of Tesla cars. Let’s speculate what the potential model lineup of this brand could look like in our country.
Import Laws Benefitting Tesla
It is necessary to understand Tesla doesn’t have the first-mover advantage in India. It may have had it if it had entered the market earlier and created an image in the minds of the experimental Indian buyers. However, they are at a significant advantage as the Indian Import Laws have reduced the Import duties from 110% to a whopping 15%, which will aid the brand in selling their cars at reasonable prices.
2025 Tesla Model Y
The Tesla Model Y is the car that will undoubtedly make it to our shores, as it is the most versatile offering in the global lineup. The 2025 facelift has gotten new front and rear styling and is offered in two variants: Standard Range and Long Range. The Long-Range version is powered by a 75 kW battery pack that will produce 384 HP and 508 Nm of torque. There will be a Standard Range version in Rear-Wheel-Drive form as well, but the statistics are yet to be revealed.
Interior & Potential Pricing
The interior of the Model Y is cleaner and more luxurious than before. There are ventilated and heated seats and a huge central screen. In terms of pricing, the Model Y will cost between Rs. 60-70 lakhs, and that isn’t a significant difference for a car that will be available via the CBU route.
2025 Tesla Model 3
There will also be the availability of the Model 3, which should be the cheaper version of the two. However, reports suggest it will be available to buy later on. The Model 3 received a facelift in 2024 and has three variants to offer: Long Range RWD/AWD and Performance.
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range is powered by a 57.5 kWh battery pack that produces 295 HP and 418 Nm of torque. It does 0-100 km/hr in 4.6 seconds. The Long Range AWD is powered by a dual motor setup with 80 kWh and offers 550 km of range.
Performance & Potential Pricing
The AWD version produces 425 HP and is quicker. However, the quickest is the Model 3 Performance, which does 0-100 km/hr in just 2.9 seconds! However, that performance comes at a disadvantage of a reduced range of 482 km. The Model 3 should be priced from Rs. 50 lakhs to Rs. 75 lakhs considering the Import Duties.
Probability Of Other Models
There is the possibility of the Model S and Cybertruck being sold in India, but for that, they would need to be sold as a right-hand drive version, which the Cybertruck and Plaid Variants of the brand don’t offer. However, if they were to be sold in India, they would be expensive to buy at Rs. 1-2 crores.
Outlook
When the Trump Administration announced 25% tariffs on all countries taxing American companies, it opened the floodgates for companies like Tesla. Not to mention, the meeting of Elon Musk and Prime Minister Narendra Modi creates hope for Tesla Models to be sold in India swiftly. However, it remains to be seen how the brand will address its quality issues, especially against stiff competition from BYD, VinFast, etc.
