The decision has been taken as Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla was almost run over by a truck while riding a dirt bike as a kid.
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, in the company’s annual shareholder meeting recently has confirmed that the company has no plans of entering the 2-wheeler business.
Tesla is the biggest electric car manufacturer in the world. Not only this, they even produce space rockets and were the first to reuse a space rocket. Their other area of interest is the Hyperloop which will take you from Mumbai to Pune in about 30 minutes (once it is ready though which might take a few years). But there is one thing that the company is wary of and that is the 2-wheeler business.
As a kid, Elon used to ride a dirt bike. But he once had a narrow escape from being run over by a truck. That memory has stuck with him and has prevented him from getting into the 2-wheeler business. It wouldn’t be right to say that he is scared. What is right is that he doesn’t want anything to happen to his customers.
While on one hand, we have Tesla who has no intentions of producing an electric bike, on the other we have Harley-Davidson which is right on track to launch an electric hog in 2019.
There’s no doubt that electric is the future and while it would have been very interesting to see a 2-wheeler made by Tesla, their cars still continue to impress with their ever advancing technology.
