Tesla recalls Model S and Model X due to cabin door safety

Tesla recalls 1,20,423 vehicles in the United States. This move comes in response to concerns about the risk of cabin doors being unlocked during a crash, as reported by the country’s road safety regulator. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) revealed this information on Friday, shortly after Tesla’s announcement of another significant recall.

The recall specifically targets 2021-2023 Model S and Model X vehicles, with the NHTSA indicating that these units do not comply with certain federal safety standards for side-impact protection. The safety concern revolves around the potential for cabin doors to be unlocked in the event of a crash, posing a risk to occupants. However, Tesla has taken a proactive approach to address this issue by releasing an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

In response to the cabin door safety concern, Tesla implemented an OTA software update to rectify the issue. This method allows the electric vehicle maker to remotely address safety-related concerns without requiring owners to bring their vehicles to a service centre physically.

This recall comes on the heels of Tesla’s largest-ever recall just last week, involving over 2 million vehicles in the U.S. The previous recall was initiated to install new safeguards in Tesla’s Autopilot advanced driver-assistance system, following safety concerns raised by federal regulators.

The safety of Tesla vehicles has been under increased scrutiny recently, prompting the company to take substantial measures to address potential risks. With the rapid growth of the electric vehicle market, safety concerns and prompt resolutions are critical to maintaining consumer trust and regulatory compliance.

Owners of the affected Model S and Model X vehicles are encouraged to ensure they receive and install the over-the-air software update promptly. Additionally, Tesla owners should stay informed about any further developments and recalls to ensure the ongoing safety and reliability of their vehicles.
