The Tesla Model Y is fast, safe and comes with a massive range of 482 km.
Tesla has showcased their new Model Y at a special launch event in Los Angeles. The American manufacturer’s Model Y SUV will join the Model 3, Model S and the Model X line-up of Tesla’s consumer passenger vehicles. It will also join the likes of the second-generation Tesla Roadster and Tesla Semi.
The upcoming Tesla Model Y will be offered in four configurations. An entry-level Standard Range model is expected to hit the international markets in the Spring (March-June) of 2021. It will be priced starting at $39,000 (Rs. 26.9 lakhs) and will be the cheapest among all the four models. However, before the appearance of the Standard range model, customers will have three different variants to choose from. These variants are expected to be launched in the Fall (September-December) of 2020.
The least priced variant of the Model Y would be the Tesla Model Y Long range. As the name suggests, it will have a maximised range of about 482 km on a single charge. It will have a 0-100 km/hr timing of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 290 km/hr. The Model Y Long Range will be available at a price of $47,000 (Rs. 32.45 lakhs). The next in the lineup will be the Tesla model Y Dual Motor AWD. As the name suggests, this variant will sacrifice some of its range and focus on performance. It will have a top speed of 217 km/hr and a 0-100 km/hr time of 4.8 seconds. The prices will start from Rs. 35.2 lakhs (est.).
The last of the lineup will be the Tesla Model Y Performance. With its two powerful electric motors, it will have a range of about 450 km and a top speed of 241 km/hr. The 0-100 km/hr timing is a surprising 3.5 seconds. It will be available at a price of Rs. 41.42 lakhs (est.).
The Tesla Model Y’s front bears striking resemblance to the Model 3, its four-door sedan sibling. When seen from the rear, the Model Y has a similar profile like the elder Model X but the taillights again remind of the Model 3. The all-electric SUV will get an optional seven-seater arrangement and a minimalist design. The interior gets a panoramic glass roof and the Tesla’s 15-inch touchscreen display. The cabin also offers a lot of space.
Tesla has very big ambitions with the Model Y and is confident that the Model Y will sell more than the Model 3 and the Model S combined.
