Japanese electric bike manufacturer Terra Motors has showcased the all electric Kiwami superbike at the 2014 Auto Expo. The company globally unveiled the Kiwami superbike in India last month with a price tag of Rs. 18 lakhs. Terra Motors has been manufacturing electric two and three wheelers since 2010 in Tokyo and showcased its entire product range at the Auto Expo. The company plans to bring its other products to the country in the near future.
On the outset, the Terra Kiwami is nothing short of a superbike in appearance. The bike has chiseled looks and an aggressive stance with the nose-down tail-up appearance and gets a fully faired body. The vertically stacked headlamps covered in a triangular shaped body shell add to the sporty appeal. The tank looks like a rib cage from the top with the added creases, while the fairing is more angular and compliments the design language. Completing the design are the 5-spoke light-weight alloys and a digital instrument console. The bike on display received a white paint job with blue accents to remind of its eco-friendliness. Being an electric, the Kiwami loses out on the exhaust and a sporty exhaust note as well. However, at glance it will be difficult to acknowledge that the bike is powered by an electric motor.
The Terra Kiwami superbike is a first of its kind electric bike in the country. The bike comprises of state-of-the-art Japanese technology and has an output of 10 KW (13.41 BHP) of power from its electric motor. The bike can hit a top speed of 160 km/hr with a range of 200 kms and can be completely charged in six hours, the largest for an electric bike in India. The Terra Kiwami is completely hand built in Japan and will be brought in the country through the CBU route.
Terra Motors will set up an extensive service network for its customers and is currently looking for experienced dealers to open shop. The Japanese manufacturer is also looking to assemble the bike in India in the future, which will considerably reduce the price of the bike.
