Global NCAP recently tested the Tata Zest’s two variants, one with dual front airbags and one without any airbags. The Zest without the airbags scored a poor 0 stars safety rating with one star for child occupant. However, Global NCAP gave Tata another opportunity to test the airbag version.

Surprisingly, the Tata Zest scored a whopping 4 stars safety rating with the dual front airbags version, which is commendable for a compact sedan made in India. With the help of improved structure, 2 airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and seatbelt reminder, the Zest’s safety rating showed substantial improvement.

The child occupant protection also improve to 2 stars safety rating in the Tata Zest. This test shows how crucial the airbags are for a car. After the crash test, Tata Motors have announced that they will be making structural improvements to the entire range of their cars in India.

Global NCAP has also urged Tata to consider making dual front airbags standard across all the variants of the Tata Zest. The basic idea behind such crash tests is to make consumers aware of such safety features and how much difference do they make in real world conditions.
