It is raining compact SUVs these days. The compact SUV segment is gaining fast momentum now with the Ford EcoSport leading the pack. Tata Motors wants to regain its lost glory and the company is coming up with new products that will appeal more to buyers. Tata Motors has now unveiled the Nexon which is a compact SUV. The Tata Nexon is based on the X1 platform which is also shared by the Zest and Bolt. The vehicle will still take a year to go into production and Tata Motors is likely to put the Nexon on sale by mid-2015.
The Tata Nexon looks significantly different than the other vehicles from Tata’s stable and we are all praises. The overall design surely looks very futuristic and the theme is carried forward to the interiors too. This vehicle will be a sure-shot success if priced and specced properly. The automaker has also given sporty alloy wheels to the Nexon along with LEDs for the lights. The ground clearance has also been increased. Even the lights look very snazzy but expect it to be a bit tone downed in the production model.
The Tata Nexon is powered by a 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol unit which generates 110 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. The 3-cylinder engine is coupled to a 5-speed automatic gearbox and the claimed mileage is 17.6 km/l. The Tata Nexon has a electric 4-wheel drive option and the top speed is 180 km/hr. The Tata Nexon will also have a diesel engine option which is likely to be the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre Quadrajet engine which Tata uses in its other vehicles.
The vehicle measures 4 metres in length, 1.73 metres in width and 1.6 metres in height. The wheelbase is 2.54 metres and the Nexon comes with an intelligent human interface system with a full width instrument cluster and a floating console. The Tata Nexon will start rolling out from the assembly line in 2015 and will compete with the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Volkswagen Taigun and Nissan Terrano. We are expecting this to be priced slightly lower than its rivals.
