Tata Motors has launched the performance-oriented Tiago JTP hatchback and Tigor JTP compact sedan. Both these vehicles come with some serious styling kit along with a go-fast engine. These cars have been tuned to deliver better and responsive acceleration.
The JTP twins get a sporty scoop on the hood, blacked out headlights with projectors, dual exhaust, contrast black roof and ORVMs. Both the cars come with wider 185 mm tyres on 15-inch dual tone alloy wheels. The ground clearance of the Tiago JTP has been reduced by 14 mm while the Tigor JTP is reduced by 4 mm compared to the standard version of the respective models.
On the inside, both the cars come with red accents, leather-wrapped steering wheel, sporty red double stitching on the seats and gear lever, aluminium pedals and a 5-inch touchscreen Harman audio system. The JTP twins get dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard.
In terms of performance, the JTP twins are powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor from the Nexon. However, this one generates more power, 114 PS and 150 Nm of torque and it comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Tata claims that the gearbox has been tuned for linear performance. The cars also come with two drive modes – City and Sport. The Tiago JTP accelerates 0-100 km/hr in 9.95 seconds while the Tigor JTP goes 0-100 km/hr in 10.38 seconds.
Tata has priced the cars at Rs. 6.39 lakhs for Tiago JTP and Rs. 7.49 lakhs for Tigor JTP. With this pricing, Tiago JTP looks like an affordable choice from the performance oriented competition. The Tigor JTP is being pitted against the Maruti Dzire and Honda Amaze that are slow in terms of performance.
