Tata Tiago & Tigor are first cars in India offering CNG AMT combination
Tata Motors has launched industry’s first CNG AMT cars – Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT. The range is priced from Rs. 7.89 lakhs (ex-showroom). You can have a look at the complete price table below. The AMT variants are around Rs. 60,000/- more expensive over their manual counterparts.
The Tiago iCNG AMT is available in three variants – XTA, XZA+ and XZA NRG. The Tigor iCNG AMT is available in two variants – XZA and XZA+. The Indian carmaker is offering new colour options with these latest additions – Tornado Blue in the Tiago, Grassland Beige in Tiago NRG and Meteor Bronze in the Tigor.
Both the cars are powered by the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 72 BHP at 6000 RPM and 95 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM in CNG mode. In petrol mode it offers 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed AMT in addition to the standard 5-speed manual transmission.
The new variants get the same twin-cylinder CNG tanks that are placed below the luggage areas to optimise boot space. Single ECU offers jerk free shifting between petrol and CNG modes. Both cars start directly in the CNG mode so you do not have to switch to CNG mode every time you start the car, which also saves fuel.
There is a micro switch that turns off the ignition as soon as the fuel lid is opened and keeps it off until the lid is securely closed. The iCNG technology immediately cuts off CNG supply to the engine in case of a thermal incident and releases gas from the cylinder directly into the atmosphere through a special nozzle as a measure of safety.
