Tata Tiago electric launch confirmed, will be the entry-level EV of Tata Motors
Tata Tiago electric launch officially confirmed by the Indian carmaker on World EV Day. They have an aim to have 30 percent electric vehicle penetration by 2030. To make EVs more accessible in our country, Tata Motors has announced this expansion in their EV portfolio.
Tata has committed to launch 10 EVs in different product segments, body styles and affordability levels. They currently have a market share of 88 percent in the EV segment thanks to the popularity of the Nexon EV and Tigor EV.
At the 2018 Auto Expo, they showcased the Tiago and Tigor EV concepts for the first time. The concept had a claimed 0-100 km/hr acceleration of 11 seconds and a top speed of 135 km/hr. However, the specs might have changed now and it is likely to share the same mechanicals as the Tigor EV.
The Tigor EV was introduced last year in August with a price range of Rs. 12-13.14 lakhs (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 55 kW (74 HP) permanent magnet synchronous AC motor producing a peak torque of 170 Nm. It has a 26 kWh Lithium-ion battery pack and offers a claimed range of 306 km.
We can expect better range from the Tiago EV with an estimated starting price of around Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom).
