UPDATE – Tata Motors has begun accepting bookings for the CNG variants of the Tiago and Tigor and dealer dispatches of the Tiago CNG have also commenced.
The teaser video of the Tata Tiago CNG came along with New Year’s wishes
Tata Motors released a teaser video on New Year’s Eve announcing the imminent arrival of the Tiago CNG, which is expected to be launched this month.
Many authorised dealerships of the carmaker have already begun accepting bookings for the CNG versions of the Tiago and the Tigor, which is also expected to debut alongside its hatchback sibling.
Since the development mules of the models spotted so far had no design changes whatsoever, the petrol- and CNG-powered Tiago and Tigor will look one and the same.
They will be powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder motor that delivers 86 PS and 113 torques when fed with petrol. Of course, the CNG variant will come with a comparatively lower power figure.
It is expected that the Tiago CNG will only be available in select grades and they are set to come with a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The NRG model may not get a CNG option.
By setting foot in the CNG segment dominated by Maruti Suzuki, Tata will be looking to grab a good piece of the pie. It seems that the brand is not ready to settle for less since it is also expected to launch CNG variants of at least 2 other cars.
That said, with the Tata Tiago CNG teaser doing rounds on social media, one question lingering in people’s minds is how much more will the model cost.
The Tiago’s manual variants are priced between Rs. 5 lakhs and Rs. 6.53 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The CNG variants should be priced by up to Rs. 50,000/- more.
