The launch of the Tata Tiago CNG would have happened sooner if not for the ongoing pandemic
Tata Motors is gearing up to launch the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG in January 2022 in the country and a few dealers are said to have already begun accepting unofficial bookings for the models.
Since the unofficial bookings have commenced, Tata is expected to formally announce the opening of order books for the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG in the coming weeks.
Expected to look identical to the petrol-powered Tiago and Tigor, the CNG models will come with the same set of features as well. However, Tata might decide to introduce the CNG models of the above-mentioned cars in select grades alone.
CNG versions of both cars are expected to use the naturally aspirated 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine that makes 86 PS and 113 Nm of torque when fed with petrol.
It is a given that when fuelled by CNG, the motor will produce a bit less power and torque. However, fuel economy would have risen considerably. Also, it is likely that the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG will only come with a manual gearbox.
Upon launch, Tata Tiago CNG will rival the Maruti Wagon R CNG. It is not known if the NRG variant of the hatchback will also get the CNG treatment. The Tigor CNG, meanwhile, will compete against the Hyundai Aura CNG.
At present, the Tata Tiago hatchback costs between Rs. 5 lakhs and Rs. 7.12 lakhs (including NRG models) and the Tigor compact sedan is priced between Rs. 5.68 lakhs and Rs. 7.85 lakhs (prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi).
