The Tata TAMO RACEMO can be assembled as a kit car thanks the MOFlex structure.
Tata Motors showcased the TAMO RACEMO at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and the sports car grabbed quite a lot of eyeballs and curiosity. The RACEMO is based on a MOFlex Multi Material Sandwich structure and due to this, the vehicle can be assembled easily with some large basic modules instead of the hundreds of components that we see in conventional cars.
The MOFlex concept is similar to a kit car concept. Kit car means that the manufacturer sends out the component kit of a car to a dealer or to a workshop and it is assembled right there. There are even customers who assemble the entire car by themselves. While kit cars aren’t popular in India, they are quite popular in the UK and US markets.
Tata Motors stated that the RACEMO is likely to be built at workshops and not necessarily at a large factory. It will be available with only those dealers who are willing to set up scale. There is also a possibility of the company setting up their own retail chain for the RACEMO. The vehicle showcased at Geneva had a Made in Mumbai badge.
