Tata Motors is coming up with 12 new cars in the next 4 years.
The Indian carmaker Tata Motors is on a product offensive starting next year. The company is planning to introduce 12 new cars in the next 4 years with varying body types based on either Alfa or Omega platforms. The products in the pipeline will be offering petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertrains.
The first product from the Alfa platform will be the Altroz. The premium hatchback will be later in the year offered with an all-electric powertrain. The H2X min SUV concept will be based on the Alfa platform as well, it will be positioned under the Nexon.
The new generation Tiago, Tigor and Nexon will also be based on the flexible Alfa platform. The much awaited C-segment sedan too is expected to be based on the same platform which will take on the likes of Honda City, Maruti Ciaz and Hyundai Verna. The sedan was showcased in a concept form at the Geneva Motor Show.
Now what’s interesting is a completely new body type for this segment, which is an SUV Coupe. The Indian carmaker is developing an SUV Coupe based on the Omega platform which is shared with the Harrier and is borrowed from Land Rover.
Mahindra had showcased the XUV500 Aero concept at the Auto Expo but then we never heard about that product again. The full-size 7-seater Gravitas based on the Harrier is coming in February 2020.
The carmaker is planning to replace the Hexa with an MPV that will compete with the Toyota Innova. It’ll be an Innova sized MPV based on the Omega platform. There is a compact MPV in the making too with the Alfa platform to compete with Maruti Ertiga.
Tata Motors is also planning to introduce a mid-size SUV competing with Hyundai Creta. The product is too big for the Alfa platform and too small for the Omega platform. In this case, Tata is considering to borrow JLR partner Chinese carmaker Chery’s platform, which will be the best fit for this mid-size SUV.
