Tata Motors and Jayem Automotive have developed the Bolt Sport and it is expected to go on sale in the later part of this year.
The Tata Bolt Sport was revealed first in 2015 and then showcased again at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Sport is based on the Bolt but comes with a number of additions and tweaks. The exteriors get a lot of styling changes and the hatchback comes with a proper body kit now. The other small but significant change is the fact that the car comes with a new logo and not the original Tata logo.
The Tata Sport has been developed by Tata Motors in partnership with Jayem Automotive which is based in Coimbatore. The automaker has partnered with the firm to develop performance cars. The owner of Jayem Automotive is a former racer so he does understand things pretty well.
Some changes on the Tata Sport include new bumpers, new air dam, grille, 17-inch alloys and air scoops on the fenders. On the mechanical front, the vehicle comes powered by the same 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine but in a higher state of tune. This time around it produces 120 HP of power and 170 Nm of torque, mated to the same 5-speed manual transmission.
The Tata Sport comes with a bigger turbocharger, remapped ECU and a high-flow exhaust system. The vehicle also gets tweaked gear ratios which are meant to extract the best possible performance from the car. The interiors also get a number of changes that lend a sporty feel to the cabin.
The vehicle drew a lot of eyeballs during the Auto Expo and it is expected to go on sale in the later part of this year. The vehicle’s final name is yet to be decided but is being referred to as Tata Sport currently. The pricing of this hot hatch is also going to be interesting. Tata Motors will also provide a number of customisation options for customers of the Bolt based Sport.
