Tata Sierra EV Launch

Tata Sierra EV to launch before March 2026, to use the Acti.ev architecture

Tata Motors has announced the launch of the highly anticipated Sierra EV along with the first model from its new premium electric vehicle brand, Avinya, by the financial year 2026.

The Tata Sierra EV, initially unveiled as a concept at the Auto Expo 2020, is set to be one of Tata’s flagship electric vehicles. Originally based on the ALFA platform used in the Altroz, the Sierra concept featured dimensions of 4150 mm in length, 1820 mm in width, 1675 mm in height and a wheelbase of 2450 mm. A more production-ready version was showcased at the Auto Expo 2023, which presented a practical five-door design, deviating from the unique four-door layout of the initial concept.

Scheduled to launch by March 2026, the Sierra EV is expected to be built on Tata’s Gen2 EV platform and incorporate the Acti.ev architecture, similar to the Punch EV and upcoming Harrier EV. The design will pay homage to the original Sierra from the 1990s, featuring signature elements such as curved rear-side windows, squarish wheel arches and a high-set bonnet.

Alongside the Sierra EV, Tata Motors is set to introduce the first model from its Avinya range, a new premium all-electric brand. Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, confirmed that Avinya will not be a standalone vehicle but a brand encompassing a range of cars and SUVs. These vehicles will be based on Jaguar Land Rover’s modular Electric Modular Architecture, which will be localised to reduce costs.

Details regarding the specific body style or specifications of the first Avinya model remain undisclosed. It is also unclear whether Tata Motors and Avinya will operate as separate entities or under a unified brand umbrella. However, the Avinya range is set to be produced at Tata’s forthcoming new plant in Tamil Nadu, an investment valued at Rs. 9000 crores. The plant, likely situated in Ranipet, may also be used to manufacture EVs for Jaguar Land Rover, leveraging Tata’s investment to bolster its electric vehicle production capabilities.

Tata’s strategic expansion into the EV market aligns with global trends towards sustainable mobility solutions. The Sierra EV’s design, reminiscent of a beloved model from the past, combined with modern EV technology, aims to attract a broad range of consumers. Meanwhile, the Avinya brand is poised to capture the premium segment, offering advanced electric mobility solutions based on localised production to keep prices competitive.
