The Safari Storme Varicor 400 gets power bumped to 156 PS and 400 Nm of torque, making it one of the more powerful SUVs on sale at present.

The Safari Storme Varicor 400 will be offered only on the top VX trim

Tata Motors introduced the facelifted Safari Storme earlier this year with a tweaked front and rear fascia, new features and updated power under the hood to keep up with the growing competition. Creating better differentiation, the Indian automaker has been working on improving the power figures on the top VX variant of the Safari Storme and now complete details on the updated trim have been leaked online from what seems to be the company’s presentation.

As seen in the leaked pictures, the 2015 Tata Safari Storme VX will get the ‘VARICOR 400’ badging added on the front fender visually signifying the additional power. The 2.2-litre diesel engine will continue to do duty on the VX trim but with power upgraded to 156 PS at 4000 RPM and 400 Nm of torque available between 1750-2500 RPM. The biggest change though is the new 6-speed manual gearbox that has been needed for quite some time now. The SUV also gets a self adjusting clutch that is not only lighter to use but also has a longer shelf life.

In addition, the updated Tata Safari Storme VX trim will come loaded with steering mounted controls, Harman audio system with six speakers, an LCD screen (no TFT touchscreen system similar to the Bolt and Zest); speed dependent volume control, Bluetooth telephony, reverse parking sound display among other essentials. Further, Tata is offering a warranty of 3 years/1,00,000 kms whichever occurs earlier and an engine warranty of 3 years/1,50,000 kms.

In terms of cosmetics, the new Tata Safari Storme Varicor 400 will continue with the updated front fascia featuring a new grille and tweaked bumper while the interiors have been upgraded to an all-black cabin with improved materials and a new three-spoke Zest inspired steering wheel. Tata also increased on the fuel tank capacity on the updated Safari to 63-litres thereby improving the overall range. Expect the fuel efficiency to take a marginal hit on the Varicor 400.
