The updates on the 2015 Safari Storme are marginal and comprise of the increased in power output, revised interior sporting new features while changes on the outside are minimal.
Tata Motors has updated the Safari Storme with a facelift today with prices starting at Rs. 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the LX variant. The facelift for the 2015 model year is minuscule to say the least and comes with basic cosmetic changes to the exteriors and an updated powertrain while the interior gets several new features along with certain omissions as well. With limited but several changes on the cards, here is what the 2015 Safari Storme facelift has to offer.
Design – On the outside, the 2015 Tata Safari Storme has retained the styling from the outgoing model and the front fascia gets a new grille with black ‘STORME’ embossed while the bumper has been revised with new detailing. Retaining the styling, the rear gets a new chrome tailgate finisher with ‘TATA’ embossing. The side profile remains the same and the alloy wheels have also been carried over from the outgoing version. Tata is offering the Safari facelift in six colour options including Urban Bronze, Arctic Silver, Arctic White, Pearl White and Astern Black. The dark red colour has been discontinued.
Interiors – On the inside, the 2015 Safari Storme facelift gets a new three-spoke multi-function steering wheel; while the Harman infotainment system has been equipped featuring an LCD display unit with Bluetooth, radio, USB, AUX and iPod connectivity. There is also the graphical reverse guide system added to the list that uses the music system’s LCD display screen. The SUV now gets an all-black cabin with the seats covered in new Java Black fabric upholstery. The centre console gets finished in warm silver, save for the base variant and looks premium. Lastly, the SUV gets a remote control locking with flip key.
Engine – Powering the 2015 Safari Storme facelift is the same 2.2-litre four-cylinder VTT (Variable Turbine Technology) VARICOR diesel engine and has the power output increased to 150 PS at 4000 RPM (10 PS more) with torque remaining the same at 320 Nm between 1700-2700 RPM. The SUV features a new 260 mm diameter self-adjusting clutch which is lighter and is paired to the same 5-speed manual transmission. The Safari Storme facelift is available in four variants including LX, EX and VX in rear-wheel drive; while the range-topping VX trim gets All-Wheel Drive as optional.
Fuel Efficiency – The 2015 Tata Safari Storme facelift has been given a marginal improvement in terms of fuel efficiency and now returns 14.1 km/l (previously 14 km/l). The fuel tank capacity though has been increased by 8-litres and can now be filled to a total of 63-litres.
Coming to the omissions, the LX variant has missed out on several features including the last row jump seats, rear disc brakes and rides on smaller 15-inch tyres. Tata has also omitted ABS and EBD from the base trim. The Safari Storme carries a warranty of 3 years/1,00,000 kms and can be extended by 1 year or 50,000 kms. The pricing remains more or less the same as the pre-facelift model. Bookings had started a couple of months back for Rs. 10,000/- and now the deliveries have started too with a soft launch.
