Tata Punch EV revealed, bookings open
Tata Motors have officially revealed the all-electric Punch. Bookings have commenced starting today with a token amount of Rs. 21,000/-. It is based on a newly developed Pure EV architecture called acti.ev.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) has introduced its first Pure EV architecture – acti.ev (pronounced as active). acti.ev stands for (Advanced Connected Tech-Intelligent Electric Vehicle) and will underpin future products from the TPEM portfolio.
Punch.ev will be the first product based on this Pure Electric architecture, which will spawn a range of new cars with multiple body styles and sizes.
The Punch.ev gets the same silhouette as the regular ICE version but significant styling changes such as the new front profile inspired by the Nexon facelift, new alloy wheel design, updated bumpers and lights.
Some of the new features of the Tata Punch.ev include LED projector headlamps, smart LED DRLs with welcome and goodbye sequence, frunk, electronic parking brake with auto hold, 360 degree surround view camera, Arcade.ev app suite, multiple voice assistants, leatherette ventilated seats, air purifier with AQI display, SOS function, DC fast charging, etc.
Tata Motors will disclose complete specifications and features of the Punch.ev closer to the launch.
Now let’s have a look at the highlights of the new acti.ev architecture. It is based on the key pillars of Performance, Technology, Modularity and Space Efficiency and consists of four layers – Powertrain, Chassis, Electrical Architecture and Cloud Architecture.
This battery pack design offers multiple range options from 300 km to 600 km. The architecture also allows for modularity in choosing the right drivetrain option for the appropriate product, between AWD, RWD and FWD. acti.ve can support 7.2kW to 11kW on board charger for AC fast charging and DC Fast Charging upto 150kW. They claim it can add ~100 km range in 10 minutes.
The second layer of this architecture can house multiple body styles with a reinforced body structure. It optimises cabin space and storage with a flat floor without a transmission tunnel, and an added frunk. Its lower centre of gravity helps in improved driving dynamics and handling.
acti.ev is a scalable architecture with higher computing powers and ADAS level 2 capabilities. The architecture is ready for ADAS L2+ capabilities. The architecture will also support Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle Charging (V2V) technology.
