Tata Motors will launch the Nexon compact SUV by the end of 2015 and the company has received positive response for the concept model at the 2014 Auto Expo. We have now rendered the production version of the Tata Nexon (codenamed X104) very accurately and the company is now deciding between two designs (there are two designs pictured below and the one on the top is likely to be finalised for production). As you can see, there is quite a lot of similarities between the concept and production versions of the Tata Nexon but the rear doors get hidden door handles like the Chevrolet Beat.
The Tata Nexon production model won’t feature the same interiors as seen on the concept. Instead the model which will go on sale will see an evolved dashboard first seen on the Bolt and Zest. Tata Motors will load their compact SUV with a barrage of features which will help them swell the value for money quotient of their first sub 4-metre UV. The Tata Nexon will run on 16-inch wheels and will also get projector headlights. The vehicle is based on the Vista’s X1 platform which will be tuned thoroughly for improved ride quality. Power will be channelled to the front-wheels and a 4-wheel drive version will not be offered.
The Tata Nexon will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel engine powering the Nexon will be the 1.3-litre Quadrajet motor, having a output of 90 BHP and 200 Nm while the petrol unit is the recently announced 1.2-litre Revotron mill but in a higher state of tune, generating 110 PS and 170 Nm. Both these engines will be coupled to manual and automatic transmissions (AMT which is F-Tronic in Tata speak). Set to rival the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster, the Tata Nexon will be priced between Rs. 7-10 lakhs in the high in demand compact SUV segment.
