2020-Tata-Nexon-18
Tata Nexon

Tata launched the Nexon back in the year 2017. In the year 2020, the Nexon received a facelift update with some tweaks to the interior, exterior, and a BS6 compliant engine. The Nexon is a sub-4-meter SUV by Tata. The Nexon is the first Indian car to be rated a 5-Star safety rating from Global NCAP. Let’s take a deeper look into the Nexon and find out if it is worth it.

Pros – Handsome Design, Amazing Ride Quality, Feedback Rich Steering

Cons – Fit-Finish Could Have Been Better, Petrol Engine Need Improvement

Tata Nexon Exteriors

Upfront, the car looks modern and muscular. It gets a thick piano-black grille with a sleeker headlamps design. The fog lamps are placed on the bumper, and they get C-shaped inserts around them which look cool to the car. The bumper gets an integrated bull bar and a skid plate, which adds more SUV character to the car. The tri-arrow pattern on the lower part of the bumper is an interesting detail and looks nice. But out of the three spokes of tri-arrow, only two spokes are coloured. The Nexon gets a dual-colour treatment. The strips running across the side and the rear of the car have the same colour as that of the roof. From the side, you can notice the blackened-out C-pillar which gives it a coupe-like design. The 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels look sporty. From the rear, you can again notice the tri-arrow design carried in the taillamps. It also gets a rear skid plate and fake vents, which helps the car in looking wider.

Tata Nexon Interiors

Inside the cabin of the Nexon, the dashboard looks nicely integrated. The dash gets three colour treatment which uplifts the overall cabin experience. The tri-arrow designed has also been carried on the centre panel of the dashboard. On the centre console, the 7-inch infotainment screen is free standing. The chrome around the AC vents looks neatly integrated. The steering gets a flat bottom, and the instrument cluster is now an all-digital unit similar to what you get in the Tiago and Tigor. The layout of the instrument is not the best, and sometimes it is difficult to read the bars of the tachometer. In terms of connectivity, it gets Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, USB, and AUX. The Nexon also gets iRA connected car tech. Other features include an 8-speaker Harman sound system, auto headlamps, auto wipers, electric sunroof, rear AC vents, express cooling function, wearable key, push-button engine start/stop, and much more.

Tata Nexon Space

The front seats are really well-cushioned and provide a good amount of support. The rear seat is also comfortable, and the recline angle is also nice. Headroom and knee room are more than average. However, the rear seat isn’t wide enough so, three people cannot sit comfortably at the back. Storage spaces could have been done better with the Nexon. The bottle holders in the doors are a bit of an ergonomic issue. However, you do get an umbrella holder in the doors. The boot is well-sized and has a capacity of 350-litres.

Tata Nexon Engine Performance

The Nexon is available with two engine options. The 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged Revotron petrol engine churns out 120 PS of power @ 5500 RPM and a torque output of 170 Nm between 1750-4000 RPM. The 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged Revotroq diesel engine churns out 110 PS of power @ 40000 RPM and a torque output of 260 Nm between 1500-2750 RPM. Both the engines come with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed AMT gearbox. You get three drive modes – Eco, City and Sport.

Talking about the 1.2-litre petrol engine, the engine feels smooth and refined when compared to the older engine. Turbo lag can be felt below 2000 RPM. The low end feels a bit unresponsive, and there are some flat spots in the rev band. Once the turbo spools up, the Nexon feels punchy. The 6-speed manual gearbox isn’t the slickest. The throws are long, and the clutch also feels springy. The drive modes are nicely tuned with the engine, and in the sport mode, you can feel the extra kick from the engine.

The diesel engine in the Nexon feels punchy but there is some turbo lag below 2000 RPM. Past 2500 RPM, the engine becomes noisy and can be heard in the cabin. The diesel engine shines best in its midrange.

Tata Nexon Mileage

The Tata Nexon diesel has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 22.4 km/l for both manual transmission and AMT. In real-world conditions, you can expect anywhere between 16-18 km/l in city traffic and 19-21 km/l out on the highways. The Tata Nexon petrol has an ARAI rated fuel efficiency of 17.4 km/l for the manual transmission and 16 km/l for the AMT. In real-world conditions, you can expect anywhere between 11-13 km/l in city traffic and 13-15 out on the highways.

Tata Nexon Handling

The Nexon feels very much composed at high speeds. The steering weighs up nicely and has a good amount of feedback. You never feel that you are not connected to the car at any given moment. Even on hard cornering, the Nexon feels confident.

Tata Nexon Comfort

The Nexon excels over broken roads, and there is no doubt in it. The suspension is slightly tuned on the stiffer side, which means you can go over bad roads without even slowing down. There are some thuds heard over the really bad patch of road at low speeds. But once it speeds up, then the ride becomes flat and calm.

Tata Nexon Safety

Tata Nexon is considered the safest car. It got a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. In terms of safety equipment, the Nexon gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, electric stability program, electric traction control, rollover mitigation, hydraulic brake assist, hill hold control, brake disc wiping and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard.

Tata Nexon Service

Over the years, Tata has improved its service. Tata has a wide network of service centres across India. The automaker is working its best to provide good service to its customers.
