Tata Nexon EV Prime replaces the regular Nexon EV in Tata’s BEV portfolio, gets a price hike up to Rs. 45,000/-
Tata Motors has silently launched Nexon EV Prime for a price starting from Rs. 14.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). It replaces the regular Nexon EV in the company’s BEV portfolio. Powered by the same motor and battery pack as the outgoing model, the Prime get additional features.
The added features have been taken from the recently-launched Nexon EV Max and the exciting part is that the existing Nexon EV owners can also get these features via an OTA update. But price has seen a hike up to Rs. 45,000/-.
Among the added features, the multi-mode regen function with automatic brake lamp activation oozes technology and sophistication. There are 4 levels in regenerative braking in which the base 0 switches off the system while 3 offers maximum intrusion.
This feature is likely to improve the range of the car which has a rather low ARAI claimed range of 312 km when compared with its slightly costlier rivals like the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona.
Other feature additions include cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) via smartphone app, and smartwatch-integrated connected tech. The existing owners will start getting these updates from 25th July onwards absolutely free of cost.
Also, to control these new features, the existing owners can take their cars to Tata service centres where new switchgear will be installed. But, these would be charged as per service centre protocols. The switch gear can used for controlling regenerative braking and cruise control.
While the OTA update this time is free, future ones would be charged as per Tata. The company will also run a tutorial for explaining these new set of features for existing owners of the compact electric SUV.
The Nexon EV Prime gets the company’s Ziptron powertrain that includes a 3-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor paired with an IP67-certified 30.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
The motor puts out 127 HP and 245 Nm and comes mated to an automatic transmission. Tata is offering an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty for the electric car which should give peace of mind to the buyers.
The company is also providing a 3.3 kW AC on-board charger and the Nexon EV can be charged up to 80 percent from 0 percent in 60 minutes using a fast charger and to 100 percent from 20 percent using a regular charger in 8 hours.
To accommodate the increase in prices of the Nexon EV with the new Prime, Tata has hiked the prices of all the variants of its bigger brother, Nexon EV Max, by Rs. 60,000/-. So, now the Max starts at Rs. 18.34 lakhs and goes up to Rs. 19.84 lakhs, all prices, ex-showroom.
