Tata Motors has teased a couple of images of what could be the Nexon DCT or a new variant, or possibly both, on its social media platforms.
Now, it is not clear as to what the actual launch pertains to, but the description by Tata reads, “You are coming closer to experience the adventures of the #NextLevel. Keep following!”.
Thus, it is up to speculations and since we know that Tata has been developing a dual clutch transmission and also the use of the words “next level” by Tata means we can expect the launch of the Tata Nexon DCT to take place.
Also, the launch date of the car has been confirmed and it is set to happen on 2nd September, meaning we do not have to wait for long to get to know about the new development is all about.
At present, Tata offers the Nexon with a couple of transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT. Since a DCT is considered a more sporty gearbox option, it might be offered on the top-spec car alone.
We suspect Tata would offer the Nexon DCT only with the 1.2-litre Revotron turbocharged petrol unit that makes 120 PS and 170 Nm. This would be apt since the petrol model can be pitched as a more sporty offering and would bode well as a separate variant too.
Pricing of the Tata Nexon DCT could well be on the expensive side, since such gearboxes take up a lot of time and resources to develop. Expect the petrol DCT to be priced on a par or above the diesel AMT that is currently sold at Rs. 12.7 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) for the top-spec variant.
One last thing about the latest Tata launch is that the timing could not have been perfect. Just ahead of the launch of the Kia Sonet and the Toyota Urban Cruiser, Tata would do well to steal some customers from either brands in the fiercely competitive segment.
