The longer Nexon will come with coupe SUV styling

Tata had shelved the Nexon Coupe project a few years ago

Tata Motors is developing a larger version of the Nexon which will be a coupe SUV that will directly rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq and the like.

The upcoming elongated version of the Nexon will be 4.3 metres long and will have a longer wheelbase than its sub-4-metre sibling, which should make its interior spacious enough.

When compared with the Nexon, the Nexon Coupe will have a redesigned front end, new panels from the ‘B’ pillars onward and a completely reworked rear profile with a larger overhang (read more cargo volume).

While, the ‘A’ pillars, windscreen and the front doors will remain as is, Tata will fit larger rear doors on the Nexon Coupe that will also get a sportier exterior styling. Its interior should sport some differences too.

Initially, the Tata Nexon Coupe will be introduced as a pure-electric car that will use the soon-to-be launched long-range Nexon EV’s 40 kWh battery pack and updated powertrain.

The Nexon has changed Tata’s fortunes for good

While this will happen in 2023, the same car will come with internal combustion engines soon after. The 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel motor will be on offer in upgraded form with a bit more power. At present the oil burner makes 110 PS and 260 Nm.

The petrol option will also be turbocharged and displace close to 1500cc. Expected to develop 160 HP, the 4-cylinder engine should find its way under the bonnet of the Harrier and Safari, both of which currently only come with a single diesel motor.

Tata had planned to showcase the Nexon Coupe concept at this year’s Auto Expo. Since the event has been postponed (and is likely to be held in 2023), it is not clear as to when the brand will unveil the new model.

While the launch of the Tata Nexon Coupe EV will only happen next year, the brand will introduce the CNG variants (dubbed iCNG) of the Tiago and Tigor on 19th January, 2022. Bookings for the same are currently underway.
