Tata Nexon CNG Turbo Launched, Priced From Rs. 8.99 Lakhs

Tata Nexon CNG is India’s first turbo CNG car, to be available with AMT as well

Tata Motors has expanded its lineup by introducing the Nexon CNG, starting at Rs. 8.99 lakhs (ex-showroom). This marks an industry-first for the brand, offering a turbocharged CNG-powered compact SUV. The Nexon CNG is available in eight variants, with the top-tier Fearless + PS manual variant priced at Rs. 14.59 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Key Features and Pricing

The Nexon CNG lineup consists of eight trims – Smart, Smart +, Smart + S, Pure, Pure S, Creative, Creative + and Fearless + PS. Notably, the highest variant is equipped with premium features, including a panoramic sunroof, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster of the same size, wireless charging, ventilated front seats and leatherette upholstery. The model also features a six-speaker sound system.

In terms of safety, all variants come equipped with six airbags, electronic stability control (ESP) and other essential safety features. The top-spec Fearless + PS trim also includes advanced features such as auto headlamps and wipers, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), front parking sensors and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Powertrain and Performance

The Nexon CNG is powered by a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder engine, producing 100 HP and 170 Nm of torque – 20 HP lower than the petrol version but maintaining the same torque output. The CNG model has an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 24 km/kg and is paired with a 60-litre CNG tank. Currently, it is available only with a manual gearbox, though Tata may introduce an AMT variant in the future, similar to its Tiago and Tigor CNG models.

Dual-Cylinder Technology

One of the standout features of the Nexon iCNG is its dual-cylinder technology. This setup allows for improved space management, offering a 321-litre boot capacity, which is just 61 litres less than the petrol and diesel versions. This innovation helps the Nexon CNG maintain a competitive edge, balancing utility and CNG storage.

Competitors

The Tata Nexon CNG enters a competitive space, with direct rivals including the Maruti Suzuki Fronx CNG, Toyota Taisor CNG and Maruti Brezza CNG. While the Nexon CNG is priced slightly higher than some of its competitors, it offers more features, especially in the top-spec trims, positioning it as a premium offering in the CNG segment.
