Tata Nexon CNG Launch Confirmed Within This Financial Year

Tata Nexon CNG to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine

Tata Motors has confirmed the addition of a CNG powertrain to the Nexon within this financial year. This move will make the Nexon the first vehicle in India to offer four fuel options – petrol, diesel, electric and now CNG.

The upcoming Nexon CNG, showcased in close to production form as the Nexon iCNG concept at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year, marks a significant development in Tata’s lineup. It will be India’s first turbocharged CNG vehicle, equipped with the same 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine found in the petrol variants.

While the Nexon CNG will maintain the standard exterior and interior design and equipment list, it is expected to feature a few CNG-related mechanical upgrades, particularly to the suspension. Additionally, it will sport iCNG badges to distinguish it from other variants.

It will get the same dual cylinder technology like its siblings that offers more boot space by dividing the CNG fuel capacity of one big cylinder into two small cylinders. The spare wheel will be positioned under the boot area.

The introduction of the CNG variant will position the Nexon against the Maruti Brezza CNG in the Indian market. Tata Motors recently expanded its CNG offerings by introducing AMT variants of the Tiago and Tigor, leaving open the possibility that the Nexon CNG could also receive an AMT gearbox option.

Upon its launch, the Nexon will become the only vehicle in India to offer such an extensive range of powertrain options. This lineup includes petrol, diesel and CNG variants with multiple gearbox options, alongside an all-electric version.

In addition to the Nexon CNG, Tata Motors plans to introduce the Curvv in both electric and internal combustion engine iterations, as well as the Tata Harrier EV, within this financial year.
