Tata Motors has been through a really undulating journey with their product dubbed as the world’s cheapest car, the Nano. Now, the company plans to sell around 10,000 units of the model a month in a year. This sales volume indicates a jump of more than 233% from the current volumes. Currently the Nano wholesale sales are hovering around 2800 to 3000 a month. The wholesale sales figure is the number of cars dispatched by a company to its dealers. A city-based dealer quoted that during the festive season, there was a robust pick-up in demand for the Nano. Tata Motors hit 10,000 units in retail sales last month and about 9,000 in retail sales in September. This has helped in liquidating the stock at the dealer and company’s end. The increase in sales can also be attributed to the attractive financing schemes offered by the company in the face of rising interest rates.

Now the company is planning a revised version of the Nano, which is also undergoing tests and is due to hit the showrooms sometime in 2012. Tata is also working on the diesel edition of the Nano which is set to come in 2012. The company preponed the launch of the new edition of Nano last month to benefit from the festive frenzy. Tata Motors is also gearing up to launch a limited edition anniversary model of the car next year. This model may have additional features such as aluminium alloy wheels.
