Automobile Research Association of India has certified that Nano, the cheapest car in the world with a price tag of Rs 1.2 lakh in Delhi, is also the most economical one among the 450 models available in the market. Fuel costs are by far the largest component of the overall operating cost of a vehicle in India making it the single most factor influencing customer decision. Tata Nano is more fuel efficient than the Maruti A-Star by 4 kmpl by posting a mileage figure of 23.6kmpl.
Maruti Suzuki still remains the company with the most fuel efficient cars by occupying 2nd and 3rd places for the most efficient petrol engined cars while also coming up in third position in the diesel category. Tata Motors topped the study with the Tata Nano while the Indigo Dicor Saloon came 2nd in the diesel catagory. Hyundai shared the third position in the petrol engine category with Maruti Suzki Alto for its i10 while topping the diesel category with the Verna.

We would advice you to take these figures with a bucketload of salt. We are quite suprised to see that ARAI which approves cars for the country can be so unrealistic when it comes to mileage figures.
