All future passenger cars from Tata Motors won’t be registered as taxi in order to ward off their taxi image. Two new products planned every year with an aim to become amongst the top three car brands in India.
Tata Motors is currently on a mission for a makeover to their cars’ taxi image. Thanks to the tremendous success of the Indica and Indigo in the taxi segment, the Tata badge doesn’t hold its candle well amongst private car buyers. The Indian automaker has revealed that all its future passenger cars will not be earmarked or registered as taxi henceforth. In a bid to become one of the top three car brands in India, Tata Motors promises to launch two new cars every year for the next five years.
Around 30-35 percent of Tata Motors’ total sales of cars are registered as taxis, which includes the Indica and Indigo CS. Mayank Pareek (President – Passenger Cars) believes that there are opportunities in different areas and Tata Motors will be present in every segment. All future passenger cars will be global products but their focus will mainly be on the domestic market. Consequently, we believe that the quality of their future cars will improve further and be consistent for all markets.
Buyers are appreciating the improved quality being offered by the Indian carmaker on the Zest and Bolt. Following the success of the Zest compact sedan, the response for the Bolt hatchback has been overwhelming for the carmaker. Within three weeks of opening bookings, Tata Motors got 50,000 enquiries, 10,000 test drive requests and 1500 bookings. In the next 3-5 years Tata Motors plans to increase their dealership network three-fold from the current 460 dealerships. It also plans the introduction of a slew of new models.
