Tata Motors will be launching a new performance brand towards the end of the year and the same is being done to improve the company’s brand image.
While the Geneva Motor Show scheduled to commence next week is all rage on the upcoming supercars set to make their debut, Tata Motors will also be present at the venue showcasing a very interesting proposition in the form of a sportier version of its newest launch, the Bolt. The sporty Tata Bolt hatchback will be debuting under the company’s new high-performance brand that is expected to be officially announced by the end of this year and will be a major brand builder for the automaker.
Tata Motors will be using the existing 1.2-litre Revotron engine under the hood of the sportier Bolt but with power increased from the current 89 BHP to a whopping 120 BHP. The engine will get added torque in addition to all that power while the gearbox will be upgraded to the Fiat sourced C501 unit seen in the Italian company’s MultiJet powered models. The Bolt will also get cosmetic upgrades to look as feisty as its engine including flared bodywork, 17-inch alloy wheels as well as modified suspension set-up with stiffer damping and lowered ground clearance.
Keeping up with the performance theme, the sporty Tata Bolt will get an interior makeover to compliment the exteriors and match the power output. Despite being a well priced and well-loaded product, the Bolt has gone off to a lukewarm start in the domestic market and Tata’s lagging brand image is said to be the major reason for the same. The new performance brand is expected to give a major boost to the company as just not an average car maker. The sportier Bolt will be the most powerful hatchback in its segment, beating the Volkswagen Polo and the upcoming Fiat Punto Evo T-Jet to the title.
