Tata Motors has announced the T1 Prima Truck Racing Season 2, which will be held on March 15 at the Buddh International Formula 1 Circuit. The race trucks now get improved performance.
Tata Motors is all geared up for the second year of truck racing as they announce T1 Prima Truck Racing Season 2. The championship will be held on March 15 at the Buddh International Formula 1 Circuit in Greater Noida. The Season 2 of truck racing will be on a bigger scale as compared to the last year championship. After gathering tremendous success for the first season of truck racing, Tata Motors has further modified their race spec trucks for more excitement and action.
Powering the Season 2 T1 Prima Race Truck is a 8.9-litre, 6-cylinder Cummins diesel engine, which is the same unit used last year but now gets tuned for better acceleration and performance requirements. The oil burner produces 370 BHP of maximum power at 2100 RPM and 1550 Nm of peak torque at 1300 RPM, mated to a 9-Speed EATON transmission. The short gear ratios remain unchanged but the rear axle ratio has been revised from 5.126 to 4.3.
The Season 1 Race Truck had a top speed of 110 km/hr but the revised version gets a claimed top speed of 130 km/hr, which is frighteningly fast for a truck this size. Thanks to the massive weight reduction, the performance has improved this time. The Tata T1 Prima Race Truck has managed to shed 350 kg weight through lighter springs and Fifth wheel coupling. 55 mm of chassis height reduction has been achieved by spring stack height reduction.
On a usual track driving, any car’s brakes heat up eventually, so imagine how quick the massive truck’s brakes would heat up. For effective braking, the trucks had an electric motor operated cooling system with 90-litre water tank. However, the Season 2 trucks get equipped with air pressurized brake cooling system with a bigger 120-litre water tank. WABCO is the official braking technology partner for the truck racing championship.
More additions to the new race trucks include rear view mirror inside the cabin, revised front axle caster, fixed rear mudguards, rigid seat structure, bigger steering wheel, improved differential lock, tail lamp cluster repositioning and a tow hook at the front. Six teams will compete in the T1 Prima Truck Racing Season 2 with 12 trucks on the short course of the Buddh International Circuit.
